Days after former minister and JD(S) legislature party leader HD Revanna accused chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and his family members of amassing property worth over Rs5,000 crore, Yeddyurappa’s political secretary BJ Puttaswamy, on Saturday, produced documents with details of Revanna’s alleged misconduct when he served as Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) chairman between 1995-96 and 2001. The loss to the state’s exchequer has been pegged at Rs58 crore.

Puttaswamy alleged that despite an inquiry report by cooperative society officials indicting Revanna for large-scale irregularities, the then chief minister N Dharam Singh squashed the report since the Congress and JD(S) were coalition partners.

Puttaswamy highlighted that Revanna flouted rules of the Cooperatives Act while recruiting staff. “Many rules have been violated to regularise contract workers in KMF and this was to help people who favoured him,” he said.

Puttaswamy said Revanna also awarded a contract of a plastic bag-manufacturing unit in Munnekolalu, Bangalore South, to his kin without calling for tenders. “Revanna and his cronies, with senior KMF officials, went on trips to countries like  Germany, Australia, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland, etc., by violating rules of the Cooperatives Act,” he added.

Puttaswamy suggested that Revanna take political ‘sanyas’ as his misconduct has been documented. “Revanna had said neither him nor his family members have indulged in irregularities during their administration. I think it’s time for him to quit public life,” he said.

Meanwhile, JD(S) spokesperson YSV Datta, on Saturday, complained against Yeddyurappa to chief secretary that the CM’s family purchased 175 acres of land by violating the Land Reforms Act.
