Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa termed the conduct of opposition parties in the state assembly on Thursday ‘undemocratic’. “The behaviour of the opposition parties showed deep disrespect to constitutional authority,” the chief minister claimed.

Yeddyurappa refused to comment on governor HR Bhardwaj, who walked away without reading the full text of his speech. He  claimed that the opposition was responsible for preventing people from knowing about the progress made by the state.

The chief minister said that the Congress had been responsible for blocking the proceedings of the house. This ‘undemocratic’ action has been continuing for the last two-and-a-half years, Yeddyurappa said. He also took a potshot at HD Deve Gowda’s family, and said that the JD(S) has been reduced to a regional party after the recent panchayat polls. Comparing the two opposition parties, the chief minister said that the Congress, being a national party with a long history, ought to have conducted itself with greater dignity.

Leader of the opposition in legislative council, MC Nanaiah, said that governor HR Bhardwaj walked away without reading the speech; that is a slap on the face of the government. “The ruling BJP dubbed the governor a Congress agent. That is why we requested the governor not to read the speech.  A petition is pending before the governor seeking permission to prosecute the chief minister. How can he make an address on behalf of the government under such circumstances?” asked Nanaiah.
