Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and his cabinet colleagues have been threatened with murder in an email delivered at IDs cm@kar.nic and info@janagraha.org on August 29 at 4.32 pm.

The city police have registered a case on September 4 and the case has been handed over to the criminal investigation department (CID).

The email had a picture of Vidhana Soudha with an image of an AK-47 rifle embossed on it. Below it ran a single line which said “we are going to kill the ministers in Karnataka, Bangalore”. The email ended with ‘Jihad Pakistan.’ It has been sent from the ID Naveed.

Vidhana Soudha Police have registered a first information report (FIR) under Section 507,66D and 71 of the IT Act. Ashok, an inspector with the Vidhana Soudha station, said in the complaint that an anonymous telephone call informed that the chief minister’s office had received an email threat. The FIR was registered under instructions from higher authorities, the complaint said. A copy of the email has been forwarded to Vidhana Soudha police station and the CID.

Police sources said the e-mail is likely to have been sent from somewhere in the city but ruled out any serious consequences.
