Eight held for attack on youths in Bellary

Police suspect that the Bangalore youths had gone to Bellary to commit a huge dacoity.

Eight people have been taken into custody for assaulting five youths from Bangalore at a club in Bellary.

The arrested have been identified as Rajeev, Nagaraj, Yerriswamy, Narasimhappa, Durgappa, Chandrashekar, Venkatesh, and Shekappa, all aged between 22 and 30, and natives of Bellary, Raichur and Andhra Pradesh.

Police said that several others involved in the attack are absconding. Sources said that the youths who assaulted the Bangaloreans were supporters of a Raichur politician.
The five injured youths, part of a nine-member group which was staying in a club on the outskirts of Bellary, were beaten up on Thursday during a clash while gambling.

Four others, who had also suffered injuries, managed to flee from the spot and are yet to be traced.

On Friday, the seriously-injured Ashwath, Girish, Kumar, Vasu and Ajay were rushed to Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Science, Bellary. Ashwath’s condition is said to be critical. Others gained consciousness on Friday. They, however, were not forthcoming in revealing their details to the police.
