Diwana Ali murder accused Mahim finally surrenders

Sheikh Mohammed Asgar alias Mahim, wanted in the murder case of Banashankari temple ward corporator Diwana Ali alias Mohammed Ali, is reported to have surrendered before the police.

According to the unconfirmed report, Mahim surrendered before an inspector from South division. The inspector is believed to be his benefactor. A source said that Mahim came out clean from various cases because of his friendship with the inspector.

However, another version claimed that the central crime branch (CCB) of city police arrested Mahim on Wednesday night from a house in Ayanur Kote in Shimoga district with the help of local police. He was absconding after the murder of Diwana Ali which occurred on January 16 at Yarabnagar in the city.
“He was traced in the house belonging to one Javed, who was also arrested along with two others for harbouring Mahim,” police said. The third person arrested has been identified as Mehboob, while the fourth is yet to be named.

With this the total number of people arrested in the case has reached 17.
Ever since the murder, Mahim, the accused number three in the case, was missing from the city. Mahim was elusive despite four special teams being deputed on his trail.

“Mahim reportedly got shelter at Ayanur Kote with his political clout. He has a strong support of two MLAs, one from Janata Dal and another from Congress. In the past, he came out clean from various cases because of his political clout,” a police officer said.
