Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa may have backed out from testifying the truth before the ‘Satya Devathe’ (god of truth) – Lord Manjunatha presiding deity of the temple town of Dharmasthala, but his worthy opponent former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has beaten him in the race to the ‘truth’.

Both these leaders had taken a vow to reveal the truth in front of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple here.

Kumaraswamy in his own rights did testify the truth before the deity in a form of a letter written to the dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala enumerating his commitment to truth and his conviction that Yeddyurappa’s government was corrupt.

He presented the letter before the media and said he was not able to present it to the dharmadhikari of the temple Dr D Veerendra Heggade as it was not his wish to drag him into the dirty world of politics. He had, however, placed a copy of the letter on the floor of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and had appealed to the god of truth to give him enough strength to fight evil of corruption and to oust the state government headed by Yeddyurappa.

Arriving after a two-hour delay, Kumaraswamy’s coming at the temple was tumultuous. His party workers and leaders who were well-behaved till he landed, went into a frenzy the moment they saw him and swamped him, not allowing the shutter bugs to take his pictures either going into the temple or coming out. They broke the police cordon and despite the strict instruction not to raise slogans or act in an unruly manner in front the temple, the workers and leaders were seen trying to get as nearer to him as possible. It resembled a scene from a comical film where all 22 players on a football game chased the ball together!

It was in such a stark contrast with how the BJP leaders and workers behaved when Yeddyurappa came to the temple. The JD(S) workers freely hailed their leaders and foul mouthed his adversary chief minister Yeddyurappa loudly just meters away from main door of the temple, which embarrassed Kumaraswamy who expressed displeasure over the same.

Kumaraswamy read out the letter he had written to Heggade and said, “I have made an attempt to clarify my stand in my bid to testify truth that Yeddyurappa did send his emissary to me to placate me in hushing up the charges of corruption I was exposing from time to time, I have testified before the god of truth that all the documents I have with me to expose corruption of the BJP government were gotten legally and they contained the irregularities to the best of knowledge.”

"All that I need to say before the god on honorable chief minister making an attempt for a rapprochement with me is just this: A mediator sent by honorable chief minister wanted to buy my silence on exposing corruption in the Yeddyurappa-led government by releasing documents. He also assured money and even promised to get all my work in the government be done on a priority basis. This is true..true…true."

"It is the unfortunate of our state and the country that our honorable chief minister is making an attempt to mix religion with politics. He has made an evil attempt to answer my political allegation by taking shelter under the garb of religion”.
