One young girl had much to be happy about on Monday, as the results of the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comed-K)-2010 were declared.

Kavya Sharat, a student of the MES PU College emerged topper of both the medical and the engineering streams. “I am elated. I plan to do electronics engineering,” she said. Kavya was earlier ranked 37th in engineering and 67th in the medicine stream of the Common Entrance Test (CET), results of which were declared on May 22.

Many Comed-K toppers had already bagged admission to either the Indian Institutes of Technology or been ranked high in the CET.

“Comed-K results come like icing on the cake. I could tackle this examination without great difficulty as I had been preparing for the Common Entrance Test (CET),” said Sunil N, a collegemate of Kavya, who name also figures among Comed-K toppers.

Sunil was ranked second in the Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics (PCM) combination, and third in the Physics-Chemistry-Biology (PCB) combination.

Sunil had secured the fourth rank in the CET engineering exam. Ask Sunil what he would like to do, and he too is interested in a degree in electronics and communication.

Yogesh Mahesh Lalmalani, a student of the Royal Concorde International School, who scored the second rank in PCB, says, “My interest in medicine springs from my zeal to work for the poor. I want to join the Bangalore Medical College.” Yogesh was ranked 41st in the Common Entrance Test.

Shanbhag Anil Atmanand, who has secured the third rank in the PCM, already has his sights set elsewhere. He is busy preparing to leave for Mumbai, where he will be joining the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology. “It is a matter of pride to be in the top-three list,” he says.

Soumya K, who got the fifth rank in PCM, said she worked ‘smart’. “It was some smart work on my part that helped me crack the test. Moreover, coaching in my college and revising the previous years’ question papers helped,” she says.

The seventh rank holder in the PCB, Sanjay Rao Kordcal, has been inspired by his family. He has looked up to his father and grandfather, both of whom have worked as doctors. “I have idolised my grandfather and father, and they are both doctors. I want to follow in their footsteps. I hope to join the Father Muller Medical College in Mangalore,” says the Udupi boy, who also likes to paint and take part in quiz competitions.

Keshav Sachdeva, a candidate from Punjab, secured the eighth rank in PCB. Keshav too has been inspired by his doctor father to take up medicine as a career. “I have gone to Kota, Rajasthan, for coaching classes. I am waiting for the results of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Aiims), New Delhi, before deciding where to join for my studies,” says Keshav.

With the declaration of the Comed-K results, the season of results of entrance examinations in the state draws almost to a close.
