Bangaloreans rally against corruption with cartoons and songs

It has been a busy two days with Bangaloreans rallying against corruption in myriad ways. Add cartoons to this list too!

This was the leitmotif of a ‘state-wide cultural jatha valedictory’, ‘Samudaya’, held at the Samsa Open-Air Theatre, Ravindra Kalakshetra, on Saturday. A 120-foot poster panel of cartoons based on corruption was the highlight of the show.

Lok ayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde detailed how corruption had seeped into every nook and cranny of the state.

“Corruption in Karnataka is neither stagnant nor decreasing. It is increasing as the days pass by,” he said. Corruption will not only be limited to administration and politics, but it will also spread to day-to-day activities of the common man, he warned.

Dr K Marulasiddappa, ex-chairman of the Karnataka Nataka Academy, and Prof GK Govinda Rao gave instances of corruption and emphasised on the need to root out corruption at the grass-roots.

TV personality TN Seetharam said redemption lay in the hands of the youth. A street play, Betala Kathe, by a playwright T Amarnath and songs about corruption in society were the other highlights of the programme.
