Come Thursday, and Palace Grounds near Mekhri Circle will be abuzz with talks on urban development and civic solutions. On that day, the grounds will host an international conference on urban governance named Municipalika 2011.
The event is being organised by Good Governance India Foundation at Rs1.5 crore. The foundation will raise the money from the stalls to be set up on the grounds and from sponsors.
Minister for urban development S Suresh Kumar said for the first time, Karnataka is hosting this annual event which has entered its ninth session now.
“Civic representatives from public and private sectors representing 120 cities across the globe are participating in the event. The theme of the conference is ‘Good urban governance for safe, healthy, green and smart cities’ which is relevant to Bangalore,” he said.
An international exhibition on ‘Urban infrastructure, municipal services and built-environment’ will also be held.
“Urban experts from countries like the US and UK will talk on civic development,” he said adding that the BBMP and other civic bodies are also giving their presentations.
At least 75 national and international experts and professionals will make presentations in the conference, which will be attended by over 500 delegates across the globe.
Urban reform agenda, integrated water and waste water-management, affordable housing for all, fire protection, integrated solid waste management, E-governance, PPP projects, etc., are some of the topics to be discussed at the seminar.
