Sandalwood actress Ramya has crossed the first hurdle in realising her ambitions in politics by winning the Youth Congress booth-level elections.

Ramya, who contested from booth No 3 of Shantinagar assembly constituency, polled eight votes from the booth that had just 14 voters. With just 10 voters (Youth Congress members) casting their vote, Ramya who received the highest number of votes was elected the president of the booth-level Congress party.

Ramya is now eligible to contest for Youth Congress president’s post apart from trying her mettle in the assembly and Lok Sabha polls for the Congress party.

Replying to queries on speculations that she has set her eyes on leading the Youth Congress in the state, Ramya played them down and just said, “It is a small beginning. I have no big plans right away. I am not in a hurry on my future course (of action).”

The actor arrived at the polling booth in Bangalore City Congress office in Shivajinagar at 10.45am after her body guards visited the spot to check security arrangements. Clad in a sari, the actor interacted with other voters, and queued up to cast her vote.

Ramya had joined the Congress impressed by Rahul Gandhi’s agenda to lure young minds in large numbers to lead the party and the nation. She joined the party on April 19, just two days before Rahul’s scheduled public rally in Bangalore.
