The commencement of the two-day counselling for post-graduate medical courses run by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) on Sunday was greeted by protests from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

ABVP activists staged a protest in front of the counselling centre, demanding that the university stop the process till a case regarding the entrance test was disposed of by the Karnataka high court.

“A case is before the high court and we want the counselling process to stop till it is cleared,” said Ravi Kumar, ABVP state secretary.

The ABVP also alleged that the university was conducting counselling for the nine candidates who were involved in mass copying at the post-graduate entrance test.

Venkatesh, registrar, RGUHS, however, said, “We have not entertained those candidates against whom an inquiry is on. The court has directed us to go ahead with the counselling till we get the order. We will be appearing before the court on Tuesday.”

Karnataka government had on Thursday nullified the results of nine candidates, who topped the Post-graduate Medical Common Entrance Test (PGMAT), conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), based on the interim reports submitted by Lokayukta and Bellary police that the candidates had indulged in malpractices.

Acting on the students’ petition, the Karnataka high court on Friday directed the state government to submit the original enquiry reports.  Justice BS Patil, however, directed the RGUHS to go ahead with the counselling as per schedule. The counselling results would be subject to the result of the writ petition, the judge observed.
