Hotel Royal Orchid is playing host to several artists from India and beyond this week. Royal Orchid, in association with Mumbai’s Gallery Beyond, has organised an art camp at the hotel. The seven-day camp, which started on Monday, has provided an ideal forum for artists to create and exhibit diverse forms of art.

The objective of the event is to call the art fraternity, media, art covers, socialites, top corporate honchos and friends of the hotel to showcase, appreciate and enrich art. Along with painting and sculpting, the event has been successful in exploring other forms of artistic expressions that included cocktail making along with interactive art sessions.

The art week is a platform for 17 contemporary artists from across India and abroad creating artistic wonders that whisper stories through silent pictures. These include Anjana Mehra, Antonio Ecosta, Chandra Bhattacharjee, Farhad Hussain, Murali Cheeroth, PD Dhumal, Rini Dhumal, Puneeth Kaushik, Rajan Krishnan, SGVasudev, Uday Mondal, Priyanka Chowdhury, Pritham Bhatty, Manish Pushkale, Santana Gohain, Peter Bevan and Sudhanshu Suttar.

Speaking on the occasion, CK Baljee, CMD, Royal Orchid Hotel Ltd, said, “The Art Camp promises to provide plentiful expressions of the diversity and wealth of the paintings and its essential reflection of the times we live in. We are honoured to host such an event and host such talented artists from various corners of India. We intend to host the Art Camp annually and anticipate that we will provide a prominent platform for Bangaloreans to witness some great art.”

“I experience an immense sense of freedom being in a natural landscape. Being an artist, I am enabled to express my emotions and thoughts through gestures by interacting with the environment,” says Rajan Krishnan who has held over 10 solo shows across India and abroad.

“I believe in art that speaks a universal language, which has a life of its own. One with a certain degree of permanence, which portrays the feel and flow of life with all its coloured nuances and experience. Today one speaks of negating aesthetics. But can aesthetics ever be denied? Can it be wiped out from this world, which is so varied and beautiful?” questions Rini Dhumal, one of the artists at the event who recently published a compilation of her artwork Rooted Landscapes.

Vibhuraj Kapoor of Gallery Beyond said: “We are optimistic about giving the city a different artistic experience and we hope to come back every year. This is a platform for both artists and art enthusiasts to interact and appreciate art.”
The workshop ends on Sunday. The paintings and other artworks created through the week will be on display and guests will have the opportunity to interact with the artists. The gallery will be open for public viewing on Saturday.
