Eight MLAs belonging to the opposition JD-S and Congress on Thursday did not formally reply to notices issued to them by a House committee looking into the ruckus in the state legislative assembly on October 11, when chief minister BS Yeddyurappa first tabled the trust vote motion.

The committee, headed by BJP MLA Appachu Rajan, would take its decision without hearing the eight lawmakers. Thursday was the last day to record the statements of the legislators.

“The last chance provided to the 15 MLAs from the Congress and JD(S) to submit their reply ended today (November 18). They failed to appear. We will take ex parte decision and prepare the report based on their written replies,” Rajan told reporters.

The panel would submit its findings after recording the statements of the city police commissioner, Shankar M Bidari and home department officials who were present in the assembly. The committee would also speak to marshals injured in the melee.

“We will ask them why they had entered the assembly hall and what happened inside the house after their entry,” Rajan added. The panel has been asked to submit its report by November 30.

Congress MLAs BK Sangameshwar, Suresh Gowda, UT Khader, PM Ashok, Rahim Khan, Kakasab Panduranga Patil appeared before the committee on Thursday and submitted their views. HB Manjunath, who was also issued notice, did not turn up.

Seven JD-S MLAs who had twice asked for opportunities to express their views were also absent.

The committee had last week directed seven MLAs to submit their reply orally and in writing on November 12. But, only NA Harris, from the Congress appeared before the panel.
