Family claims the 17-year-old took her life after being rebuked for quarreling with her younger sister.
Seventeen-year-old Gagana, daughter of a city MLA, was found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan in her room, at her residence at Hongasandra on Begur Road on Thursday night, police said.
The post mortem and the final rites of the girl, daughter of Satish Reddy, BJP legislator from Bommanahalli constituency, was conducted within hours of her death early Friday at a piece of land belonging to Reddy.
According to the first information report (FIR) lodged with Madiwala police, Gagana, who was studying in first PUC at Christ College, was found dead after being scolded by parents over a row with her younger sister. Anand Kumar, a relative, filed the complaint about her death.
“I was called up in this background at 9.15 pm on Thursday. I was told that Gagana had strangulated herself at her room, located in the first floor of the house at Hongasandra on Begur Road in Bommanahalli,” Anand Kumar stated in his complaint.
Police said that after being rebuked by her parents, Gagana locked herself in her room on the first floor of the house. When she did not emerge for a long period, worried family members banged on the door of her room, and, finding no response, broke the door open, to find Gagana hanging from the ceiling fan.
She was rushed to Prashant hospital near her house, but was declared brought dead by doctors. Later, she was shifted to Victoria Hospital.
In a departure from the norm, doctors at Victoria, who don’t undertake post mortem after 6 pm, conducted the examination on Gagana at about 1.30 am and handed over the body to the family soon after.
Gagana leaves her parents and two siblings, a nine-year-old younger sister, and five-year-old brother.
