The police have arrested the three people who allegedly murdered 22-year-old local goon, Yogesh Rana, in Powai on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the three were arrested from their hideout at Lallu Compound in Malad. They have been as relatives of Abid Ali Sheikh, who was stabbed to death by Rana and his aide Jaffer Amin last year.
The accused Gufran Naushad alias Nadaan Siddique, 22, Maajid Umar Shaikh, 23, and Mohammed Sayyed, 19, have been remanded in police custody till August 7.
Police said Rana and Amin stayed together after they met in jail. The two were nabbed by officials of Aarey sub-police station last year for Sheikh’s murder. “A narcotic dealer, Sheikh would often eve-tease Amin’s sister. This provoked Amin, who along with Rana reportedly stabbed him to death,” senior PI Suhas Rane said.
On Monday, a sick Rana had gone to buy medicines when he was stabbed him to death by 10 people. Rukhsana, Sheikh’s mother, said, “Rana paid the price who along with Amin murdered my son.”
While a manhunt is on to nab the seven others, the police also “recovered the choppers used in the killing from a scrap dealer in Powai”, Rane said.
