Exam related stress and depression claimed the life of a 16-year-old, who jumped to his death from the terrace of his hostel in the wee hours of Thursday.

The deceased Shrenyas Soni aka Priyansh was a class XI student of Vijaynagar high school.  Shrenyas hailed from Dessa and his father Rajesh is in the business of gold polishing. Shrenyas had been staying at the Akhil Hind Shrimali Soni Mahamandal hostel in Naranpura.

His suicide came to light when some people found his body in the morning. Trustee of the hostel, Rohit Zaveri said, "We came to know of the incident in the morning. The post-mortem states that Shrenyas died because of internal injuries that he sustained due to the jump."

Rector of the hostel, Kantilal Soni said that he spotted Shrenyas's body when he heard the screams of the victim's roommates.  Shrenyas shared the room with his cousin brothers, Akshit Soni, Kishore Choksi, Hiren Soni and Hardik Soni.  Sources said that on the night before his death the victim had a discussion with Hiren about his school paper.

Shrenyas had told Hiren that he could not attempt his physics paper well.  When Hiren woke at 6 on Thursday morning he found Shrenyas's bed empty.  When he peered out of the window, he saw Shrenyas's body lying on the hostel ground in a pool of blood. Sources said that Hiren then immediately called for help and Shrenyas was rushed to the VS hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Naranpura police station officials said it seems that Shrenyas could not handle the fact that he had not performed up to the mark in the exams.
