The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) land scam took its first toll on Friday with IT and BT minister Katta Subramanya Naidu tendering his resignation which was immediately accepted by governor HR  Bhardwaj.

“I have tendered my resignation from the ministry to spare the government and my party of any embarrassment in the light of the chargesheet filed against me in the KIADB land scam,” Naidu said.

“No one asked me quit. I have voluntarily quit owning moral responsibility. I have no ambition to continue in the ministry amid the controversy,” he said after submitting his resignation to chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.

A dejected Naidu, however, put up a brave front by stating that he would return soon with a bang after clearing all charges against him. “I am  not a culprit just because the chargesheet has been filed against me. I will extend full co-operation to the lok ayukta in the investigations. I will come clean after the probe and return to the cabinet,” he said.

Reacting to reports of his impending arrest, Naidu said that just because a chargesheet had been filed it does not mean that it was mandatory to arrest the accused.

Denying reports that he was trying to evade arrest, Naidu said the reports were baseless and he was heading to Vaishnodevi pilgrimage and would return to the city immediately after that.

His son, Katta Jagadish, a BBMP corporator, too is expected to follow in his father’s steps by quitting his the BBMP membership.

Even as Katta Subramanya Naidu is embroiled in Lokayukta probe on land scam involving lands at Bagalur, opposition leader Siddaramaiah has levelled fresh charges of irregularities in the denotification 78.36 acres acquired by the KIADB near Bidadi in 2007 when he was industries minister.

“I have all the documents related to it and I will submit all details to the Lokayukta and request enquiry into this,” Siddaramaiah said.
The Lokayukta FIR points to irregularities in allotment of 385 acres to Itasca software company, floated by an aide of Naidu. For allotment of land and obtaining consent of farmers, illegal gratification of Rs87 crore was allegedly paid to a benami company of Naidu and Jagadish, it said.
