Civic agencies have continued to accept responsibility for the death of 19-year-old college student B Bhanu Priya (in pic), who was killed on Tuesday in an accident on Krumbigal Road in Chikka Mavalli. Thursday saw the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) blaming the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) for the tragedy.

The BBMP, in a release, said that Bescom had dug up Krumbigal Road for laying cable for a transformer in the area and had left the debris on the footpath. “Bescom did not take permission from BBMP for the work. Bescom officials, who were present at the spot inspection conducted by the BBMP officials, had no answers when queried about the incomplete work,” said a BBMP official.

The Palike said that the Bescom was directly responsible for Priya’s death. The BBMP had directed it to set right the road as soon as possible.

Bescom chief engineer Ashok Angadi said that the agency could not take up any digging work without the BBMP’s permission. “I have not received any official communication from the BBMP yet. I will check the issue with my junior officers,” he said.
Dr A Ravindra, chief minister BS Yeddyurappa’s advisor on urban affairs, had on Thursday pulled up the civic agencies for passing the buck on civic mishaps.
