Pakistan is mooting to install extraordinary security around the country's defence installations in the wake of attack on the Karachi naval air base, with the nations top defence body meeting here to review the measures.

Prime Minister Yousaf Reza Gilani will preside over the meeting of the Defence Coordination Committee of the Cabinet called after the Sunday's attack, which killed 10 navy personnel.

Two maritime reconnaissance aircraft were also destroyed in the attack.

Taliban had claimed responsibility for the attack, which raised fears about the capability of the militants to strike heavily-guarded defence installations anywhere in the country.

Sources said that the committee will propose new stepped up measures for the security of all defence installations and assets in view of Taliban attacks.

Gilani, who visited the naval base yesterday, issued special instructions for the security of all defence assets and installations.

The meeting comes just hours after another Taliban attack on a police investigation center in the northwestern city of Peshawar, which killed at least five policemen and injured over 20 others.

The targeted police station is also located in sensitive military area of Peshawar and is not far from the US consulate and the army air base.
