The Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) published its annual global university ranking list, in which American institutions continue to be dominant at the top.
Harvard University in Massachusetts is ranked at number one, while Stanford University is at second. and Massachusetts Institute of Technology were placed at number two and three respectively. In third and fourth place is UK's University of Cambridge and University of Oxford, for the second year in a row.
While Connecticut’s Yale University was placed at number 10 in 2014, it has been replaced by Cornell University in New York.
The other institutions that made the list are as follows: Massachusetts Institute of Technology(6), University of California, Berkeley (7), University of Chicago (8), Princeton University (9).
The CWUR does not use surveys and university data submission to compile their list. Rather, it measures the quality of education and training of students, the prestige of faculty members, as well as the quality of their research at the university.
When compiling the list of 1,000 universities, CWUR uses only eight methods. It includes, quality of education, alumni employment, broad impact, publications- measured by the number of research papers appearing in reputable journals.
