A prank gone wrong proved fatal for an innocent man who was shot dead by Kansas police in the United States on Friday. The 28-year-old man, identified as Andrew Flinch, was a target of the swatting prank.

A gaming community of Call of Duty has been held responsible for the entire prank act, which claimed the life of the man.

Online gamers and Internet pranksters have several times been accused of endangering public life and property with prank calls. Many cases have been reported of wasting police time as well.

'Swatting' is an Internet prank that calls and demands help from local police department to the scene of crime that never actually happened. Basically, the prankster makes a hoax call to the police asking for help or stating a false murder story or describes an incident that involves hostages.

Generally in such cases a large number of police officers with armed SWAT team reach the place only to realise that it was all a prank.

According to Reports, a man made a call to Wichita Police saying that he had just shot his father in the head and had held his mother and brother hostage. Working on that information, Wichita Police reached the purported crime scene, fully prepared for the hostage situation.

As the incident unfolded, a man opened the door of the house and started to walk. Police officials gave him several commands to raise his hands and walk. But Flinch failed to keep his arms raised and was immediately shot by an officer. The police officer feared that he was drawing a gun and hence took the action.

The investigation later found that nobody was killed or injured in the house.
