World No 1 Nick Matthew of England would love to take the Delhi court with him wherever he plays. In October, he bagged two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and now two months later he added the Punj Lloyd PSA Masters squash crown to his kitty at the majestic Siri Fort complex.

It was double delight for the Briton as Jenny Duncalf claimed the WISPA women’s title. She trounced Australia’s Kasey Brown 11-5 11-5 11-4 with a ruthless display of all-court squash.

Matthew and James Willstrop know each other’s games like the back of their hands. They have played thrice in recent times. In the CWG final, the World Open final in Saudi Arabia and now at the Punj Lloyd PSA event on Sunday. All three results were the same as Matthew prevailed on each occasion.

It was going to be no different this time around too as Matthew dominated his way around the court. He found the corners and also made good use of the lob from the forecourt. The 26-year-old had Willstrop huffing and panting with his deft drops.

Willstrop had no answers to the world champion’s strokeplay and was a spent force. He gratefully acknowledged the referee Rajeev Reddy calling a ‘stroke’ as he came in the way of another brutal Mattew shot. The Briton prevailed 11-7 11-8 11-7.

“It’s been a fantastic and long year. To end the year as No 1 and come to Delhi and win again is the icing on the cake. I will always remember the city as I won 2 golds at the Commonwealth Games at the Siri Fort venue,” said the elated champion.
