Jagmohan Dalmiya has had his way, finally. The former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India has managed to land a One-day International for Kolkata.

The Eden Gardens, which has not hosted a single ODI since February 2007, has been allotted a one-dayer of the five-match series against Sri Lanka.

The exact date has not yet been announced. The four matches will be in Cuttack, Rajkot, Visakhapatnam and New Delhi. The three Tests will be at Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kanpur. The two T20 internationals will be played in Nagpur and Mohali.

The decision was taken by the Tours and Fixtures Committee of the BCCI after a stormy meeting in New Delhi on Friday. It has been learnt that a couple of members of the committee vehemently opposed the allotment of any match to the Eden Gardens but the committee came under intense pressure from a few others.

Biswarup Dey,  joint secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal who is also member of the committee, is believed to have pitched hard for a match which found support in a couple of  others, particularly from its North Zone representative Aslam Goni. The meeting, convened by BCCI secretary N Srinivasan, was chaired by Lalit Modi.

Welcoming the decision, an elated Dalmiya told DNA that justice has been finally done to Kolkata, Eden and CAB. “We have been making a demand for our rights and we’re happy that it has been met. The match was long overdue for us,” the former CAB president said.

Dalmiya also said that Eden is also due for a Test match. “We have not hosted a Test since late 2007. We hope this anomaly will be addressed at the next fixtures committee meeting.”
