In the end, Air India and Sporting Clube de Goa shared the spoils. The 1-1 draw didn’t serve anyone’s purpose and both teams are back to fighting to retain their I-League berths.

Perhaps the result went against Sporting Clube even more. With six points from 14 matches, Vishwas Gaonkar’s boys are staring down the barrel. Air India, who extend their unbeaten run to three matches, are 11th with 15 points.

However, if one compares both teams’ performance on Friday at the Cooperage, then Sporting Clube were actually a tad better than Air India. They had more possession and at least showed some intent to score.

Mostly though, both teams looked clueless. A handful of people who filled the stands on Friday were made to sit through a really poor match.

Allan Dias opened the scoring for Air India in the 34th minute while Nicolas Rodrigues brought the visitors back to the level terms by scoring from the spot at the stroke of half-time.

“We should have won. We played well but couldn’t make most of the possession. The draw really hasn’t helped either of the sides,” said Gaonkar.

The second session saw neither team come up with any clear cut chances. The ball was played in the midfield with overcooked passes being the trend.
