17 time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka defeated French doubles duo Julien Benneteau and Richard Gasquet in straight sets win 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 to give a 2-1 lead to Switzerland in the Davis Cup final in Lille.

Federer, who pulled out of ATP World Tour finals due to a back injury, said that the victory has given him a big relief and thanked medical staff for his speedy recovery. On the other hand, Wawrinka stated that they played a very aggressive tennis to emerge victorious and they are ready to face their respective French rivals in the upcoming title decider contest, the BBC reported.

A reverse single between two teams will decide the winner as Federer is likely to play against Jo-Wilfred Tsonga and Wawrinka against Monfils.

While France have won the Cup in 2001, Switzerland have not opened their account as of yet. France have also emerged victorious 10 times of their previous 12 Davis Cup ties against Switzerland.
