As Rio 2016 enters its sixth day, India's hopes are high as Saina Nehwal kickstarts the badminton campaign. 

Thrilling matches await as badminton is scheduled to get kickstarted on Thursday, along with Sania Mirza - Rohan Bapanna playing their first match, which got cancelled on Wednesday due to rains. Best Indian golfer Aniban Lahiri is also set to show his skills in the men's round one. Other than these players, J Gutta, A Ponnappa, PV Sindhu, SSP Chawrasia, Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi, hockey teams (both men and women), Kidambi Srikanth, Shiva Thapa are other Indian players who will be eyeing to take a step further in their Olympic journey. 

All eyes will be set on Saina Nehwal, who is the country's biggest medal tally.

Some of the events will be telecast live on Star Sports Network and can be streamed live on Hotstar. 

1. Golf: Men's Round 1

Participants: Anirban Lahiri and SSP Chawrasia

Time: 4.00 pm IST

Result: Anirban finished at the 50th position and Chawrasia at 27th position.

2. Badminton: Women's Doubles Group A

Participants: J Gutta/ A Ponnappa    

Time: 4.30 pm IST

Result: Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa lost 15-21 10-21 to the World No.1 Japanese pair of Ayaka Takahashi and Misaki Matsumoto​.

3. Archery: Women's Individual Round of 16 

Participants: Deepika Kumari v/s Tan Ya-ting 

Time: 5.30 pm IST

Result: End of the road for ​Deepika who was blanked 0-6 by World No. 2 Tan Ya-Ting ​

Participants: Bombayla Devi v/s Alejandra Valencia 

Time: 5.56 pm IST

Result: Bombayla lost 2-6 to World No.18 Alejandra Valencia of Mexico.

4. Badminton: Men's Doubles Group Stage

Participants: S Reddy and M Attri

Time: 5.30 pm IST

Result:  Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy lost their opening matches.​

Participants: Kidambi Srikanth v/s Lino Munoz

Time: 5.30 am (Friday) IST

Result: Srikanth Kidambi (India) beat Lino Munoz (Mexico) 21-11 21-17​

5. Hockey: Men's Pool B

Participants: India vs The Netherlands

Time: 6.30 pm IST

Result: The Indian men's hockey team​ went down 1-2 against Netherlands​.

6. Badminton: Women's Singles Group Stage

Participant: PV Sindhu

Time: 6.40 pm IST

Result: Sindhu spanked World No. 64 Laura Sarosi of Hungary 21-8 21-9 in 27 minutes.​

Participant: Saina Nehwal

Time: 7.50 pm IST

Result: Saina staved off a spirited challenge from World No. 73 Brazilian girl Vicente Lohaynny 21-17 21-17.  ​

7. Tennis: Mixed doubles

Participants: Sania Mirza v/s Rohan Bopanna

Time: 7.30 pm IST

Result: The Indian duo of Sania and Bopanna entered the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles event of tennis competition with a straight-set win over Australian pair of Samantha Stosur and John Peers.​

8. Boxing: Men's Bantam (56kg) Preliminaries

Participant: Shiva Thapa

Time: 8.00 pm ISP

Result: Shiva Thapa ​lost 0-3 in a one-sided contest in which he also ended up sustaining a cut above his left eye.​

9. Hockey: Women's Pool B

Participants: India vs USA 

Time: 4.00 am (Friday)  IST

Result: Indian women's hockey team​ slumped to a 0-3 defeat against USA​.
