N Srinivasan had an easy choice to make on Sunday: witness the coronation of Shashank Manohar in Mumbai or play golf in Chennai. He chose the latter. And he had a good day on the fairways and greens.

By late afternoon, Srinivasan would hear how Manohar praised him both in the meeting room as well as the press conference. By evening, he got a missive from the new BCCI president, requesting him to withdraw the perjury case against BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur.

"I can tell you Srinivasan was an excellent secretary, he was better than most of the secretaries I have come across in the BCCI. He was one of the best secretaries to have as I found out during my (first) tenure (from 2008 to 2011). I don't know what happened after I completed my term in 2011. I was not in touch. Srinivasan was by far the best secretary after Mr (Jagmohan) Dalmiya," Manohar told reporters. It was surprising to say the least.

dna understands that Manohar and some of his supporters approached PS Raman, representative of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, and asked him to convey to Srinivasan that the board must stand united.

A source in the Srinivasan camp told dna, "It was nice of Manohar to do that. We will consider the request provided Anurag withdraws the affidavit in which he alleged that Srinivasan barged into the meeting of the working committee in Kolkata recently." Srinivasan sought the help of BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry and BCCI vice-president (West Zone) TC Mathew, asking them to file counter affidavits. Chaudhry reportedly got an earful from the members for going against the secretary, but just as he sought to explain his position he was advised to stay mum. When asked about this, Manohar said, "The issue has been sorted out informally."

According to a source, Srinivasan and Manohar have buried the proverbial hatchet. At least for now. This has a lot to do with the intervention of Sharad Pawar, who had initially agreed to side with Srinivasan. That partnership, however momentary, has done Srinivasan some good. Here's more: when asked if he would remove Srinivasan as the BCCI's nominee for the post of International Cricket Council chairman, Manohar said, "The general body has to decide at the AGM."
