On paper, Group C looks straightforward for Germany but the presence of neighbours and frequent foes Poland is likely to make things interesting. Here's how the teams match up:

Germany

Manager: Joachim Löw

Squad
Goalkeepers:
Manuel Neuer, Bernd Leno, Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Defenders: Jerome Boateng, Emre Can, Jonas Hector, Benedikt Howedes, Mats Hummels, Shkodran Mustafi, Antonio Rudiger

Midfielders: Sami Khedira, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mesut Ozil, Andre Schurrle, Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze, Julian Draxler, Leroy Sane, Julian Weigl, Joshua Kimmich

Strikers: Thomas Muller, Mario Gomez, Lukas Podolski

Strength: After years of flitting with greatness, the German national team achieved success by winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup and has one of the best squads in the tournament, and many will expect a Spain-like domination in the major tournaments from them.  In Neuer they’ve one of the best keepers in the world, while the likes of Boateng and Hummels can be counted on provide a solid defence. Their midfield is packed with talented players like Ozil, Schurrle and Gotze, and most of their squad members would walk into other teams.

Weakness: The likes of Gomez, Podolski and Schweinsteiger have become a little frayed in their old age, and the injured Marco Reus is a huge miss. They are a little light in the number 9 department and the onus will be Muller to provide the goals.

Star Man: Mesut Ozil

Past Performance: Winners – 1972, 1980 (as West Germany) and as unified Germany in 1996

Prediction: Champions

Northern Ireland

Manager: Michael O’Neill

Squad

Goalkeepers: Alan Mannus, Michael McGovern Roy Carroll

Defenders: Craig Cathcart, Jonathan Evans, Gareth McAuley , Luke McCullough, Conor McLaughlin, Lee Hodson, Aaron Hughes, Patrick McNair, Chris Baird

Midfielders: Steven Davis, Oliver Norwood, Corry Evans, Shane Ferguson, Stuart Dallas, Niall McGinn, Jamie Ward

Forwards: Kyle Lafferty, Conor Washington, Josh Magennis, Will Grigg

 Past Performance: Not Applicable

Strength: Northern Ireland has risen through the FIFA rank in the last couple of years and will take heart from Leicester City’s remarkable English Premier League win. Kyle Lafferty has proven himself to be an efficient goal scorer. They also have a lot of Manchester United old boys, some of whom have have learned their trade at Sir Alex Ferguson's knees.

Weakness: Sadly, they lack any well-known names and are likely to be overrun by the occasion and opposition players.

Prediction: Group Stage

Star Player: Kyle Lafferty

Poland

Robert Lewandowski (Getty Images)

 Manager: Adam Nawalka

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Artur Boruc, Lukasz Fabianski, Wojciech Szczesny

Defenders: Thiago Cionek, Kamil Glik, Artur Jedrzejczyk, Michal Pazdan, Lukasz Piszczek, Bartosz Salamon, Jakub Wawrzyniak

Midfielders: Jakub Blaszczykowski, Kamil Grosicki, Tomasz Jodlowiec, Bartosz Kapustka, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Karol Linetty, Krzysztof Maczynski, Slawomir Peszko, Filip Starzynski, Piotr Zielinski

Strikers: Robert Lewandowski, Arkadiusz Milik, Mariusz Stepinski

Strength: Poland find themselves in the same group as their familiar foe Germany and should qualify for this group. Robert Lewandowski will be the key and Poland will hope that their talismanic captain can continue his club form where he scored 30 goals for Bayern Munich. And Lewandowski also scored 13 goals in the qualifying campaign.

Weakness: Lewandowski’s pedigree is non-existent in other parts of the field and despite Premier League representation in the goal-keeping ranks, the fans won’t be full of hope.

Past Performance: Group stages – 2008 and 2012

Star Player: Robert Lewandowski

Prediction: Round of 16

Ukraine

Andriy Yarmolenko (Getty Images)

Manager: Mykhaylo Fomenko
Squad

Goalkeepers: Andriy Pyatov, Denys Boyko, Mykyta Shevchenko

Defenders: Artem Fedetskiy, Mykyta Kamenyuka, Vyacheslav Shevchuk, Oleksandr Kucher, Yaroslav Rakytskyi, Yevhen Khacheridi

Midfielders: Anatoliy Tymoschuk, Oleksandr Karavaev, Andriy Yarmolenko, Denys Garmash, Serhiy Sydorchuk, Serhiy Rybalka, Taras Stepanenko, Viktor Kovalenko, Ruslan Rotan, Yevhen Konoplyanka

Forwards: Pylyp Budkovskyi, Roman Zozulya, Yevhen Seleznyov

Strength: While the likes of Yarmolenko and Konoplyanka aren’t household names, they might enjoy a breakthrough tournament particularly since the competition in Group C isn’t that tough. Their manager Fomenko has also set up his team defensively and you can expect them to give a hard time to more illustrious oppositions.

Weakness:  They distinctively lack star power and over-dependence on Yarmolenko and Konoplyanka is a problem. For their natural stardust, the duo refuse to defend much which can also harm the team.

Star Player: Andriy Yarmolenko

Past Performance: Group stage in 2012

Prediction: Group Stage
