Neither of the teams could find rhythm, but Manipur looked the better team on the tera-block surface.
Manipur coach T Nilamani was happy with the performance, but was in no mood to gloat. “We have worked hard, but height could make the difference in the latter stages.”
“In Manipur, youngsters take up sepak takraw, fencing, football but not many want to be a hoopster,” said captain Peter Naorem.
Manipur had a harrowing time to make it to the venue in Mumbai.
The kids along with the girls’ contingent and a four-man support staff had to travel almost four days. On May 5 they came to Dimapur from Imphal by road. From there to Guwahati and eventually in Howrah to catch the Mumbai-bound Geetanjali Express. They reached Mumbai on May 8.
