Voting trends put BJP in good position in Surat

The voting trend suggests that the BJP should manage to retain the seat.

The final voting tally in Surat in the 15th Lok Sabha elections on Thursday fell just short of 50%. According to figures released by election officials, 49.01% of the registered 14.20 lakh voters in Surat LS seat exercised their franchise.

Officials said that 52.05% of the male electorate in Surat LS seat and 45.27% of the female electorate cast their votes. The highest voting was registered in Surat East assembly segment where 54.17% voters voted, while lowest voting was recorded in Karanj segment where only 40.28% voters cast their votes.

The voting trend suggests that the BJP should manage to retain the seat. Even Congress leaders accepted that it would be a miracle if the party candidate Dhiru Gajera emerges triumphant.

The voter turnout in Navsari LS seat was recorded at 46.67%. Out of 16.23 lakh voters, 7.57 lakh exercised their franchise in the polls. The Navsari LS seat comprises areas of Navsari and Surat districts. A look at the voting figures shows that voter turnout was much higher in Navsari as against Surat.

Out of the seven assembly segments that form Navsari Parliamentary seat, the three assembly segments in Navsari district recorded more than 50% voting each, while the four assembly segments of Surat recorded between 41 and 45% voting. The BJP is expected to win the maiden election from Navsari seat comfortably.

In South Gujarat, voter turnout was the highest in Bardoli LS seat, which registered 57.80% voting. Out of 14.40 lakh voters, 8.32 lakh voters cast their votes. The highest polling was registered in Nizar assembly segment where 68.53% voters voted, while lowest voting was recorded in Kamrej assembly segment at 43.72%.
