Just 15 days after the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) students will be appearing for yet another important entrance test—All India Engineering/ Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) which will be held on April 26, 2009.
Every year, the number of students appearing for the exam doubles to those giving the IIT-JEE. Clearing AIEEE opens doors to many other reputed regional engineering colleges in the country.
The AIEEE paper pattern is also less complicated as compared to IIT-JEE. It consists of a single objective paper with separate sections and equal weight to Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Each objective question has four options with a single correct answer.
Students tend to focus more on IIT-JEE and as a result they tend to ignore the other entrance tests. "Most of the students want to get into the IITs and hence they work hard for the IIT-JEE. But this is not a rational approach. Students need to have a broader view towards engineering education. They must give equal importance to all other entrance tests," said Tushar Sanghvi, a private tutor who coaches students aspiring to sit for AIEEE.
Even though AIEEE is considered to be less difficult as compared to the IIT-JEE entrance; it is not easy to get the desired branch and institute. "In AIEEE one needs to get more than 90 out of 100 to make the right cut whereas in IIT-JEE if one gets 15 out if 30 one can hope for a good IIT," said Sanghvi.
Institutes that accept AIEEE scores
