At a time when election fever is fast catching up in the state in general and this city in particular, an enterprising businessman here has hit upon a novel idea to make the most of this opportunity. The sweetshop owner has started making sweets in the shape and colour of election symbols of various political parties. The move is drawing customers in droves and cash registers are ringing.

“We keep trying to come up with something different in our sweets to attract customers. This time, with elections round the corner, we thought of making sweets in the shape of election symbols of various parties. These sweets are attracting both customers and party workers,” said Ramesh Agrawal, owner of the sweetshop.

Thus, sweets in the shape of palm, lotus, elephant and cycle, which are the symbols of the Congress, BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party respectively, are available at this sweetshop.

These sweets, made from maava and milk, are priced at Rs150 a kg. “We like the idea,” said two customers, Mehul Shah and Meena Patel.
