Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh seems to have sheathed his dagger against fellow party leader Azam Singh for the time being.

SP president Mulayam Singh announced the rapprochement at Moradabad on Wednesday. Amar has also retraced the statement he gave before the media on Tuesday wherein he had said he would quit the party as he was feeling insulted.

“Our party is like a family and both Azam Khan and Amar Singh are part of this family,” Mulayam said, bringing the unseemly intra-party bickering to an end. “I have spoken to both leaders and there is no problem now,” he added.

For his part, Amar told reporters in Lucknow: “I can leave the world but not the Samajwadi Party... everything is normal.” He said there were no differences in the party over the decision to repeat SP MP Jaya Prada in the Lok Sabha election from Rampur. “We are all united in the leadership of Mulayam Singhji,” he said.

In fact, speaking in Bareilly on Wednesday, he went a step further to say: “Azam Khan can hit me or abuse me but I will remain in the party. I am not leaving the party now.”
These statements are in stark contrast to what he had said to reporters during a seminar here on Tuesday.
