The special investigation team (SIT), which is re-investigating some of the post-Godhra riot cases, has completed interrogation of former BJP minister Maya Kodnani and former Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Jaideep Patel in the Naroda Gam case.

The court of metropolitan magistrate GM Patel on Saturday sent Jaideep Patel to judicial custody while allowed SIT to have custody of Kodnani for one more day.

The order came after the SIT submitted before the court that it needed custody of Kodnani in the Naroda Patia case. She is likely to be produce before the court on Sunday. Kodnani's name figures in both Naroda Gam and Naroda Patia cases while Patel is accused only in Naroda Gam case.

After the court order, when the two accused were being escorted to police vehicle, Kodnani said minister for science and technology Kapil Sibal and social activist Teesta Setalvad were behind the formation of the SIT. "This is a conspiracy to stop the progress of Gujarat. To tarnish the image of Gujarat, Sibal and Setalvad had orchestrated formation of SIT," Kodnani alleged after coming out of court. "Sonia Gandhi's political advisor Ahmed Patel is also involved in giving a bad name to Gujarat," Kodnani said after she was prompted by Jaideep Patel who was standing beside her.

After the Gujarat high court cancelled the duo's anticipatory bail last month, Kodnani who was minister of state for women and child development and higher education in the Narendra Modi government, had resigned and surrendered before SIT, along with Patel.

They are accused of leading the mob which killed more than 106 people in Naroda Patia and Naroda Gam villages post the incident of burning of S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express, carrying mostly kar sevaks near Godhra railway station in February 2002.
