With the actor's ‘obscene’ act at the fashion week causing more than a stir, the fashion fraternity gives its point of view.
The police may have initiated an inquiry against Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on grounds of obscenity for his wife Twinkle Khanna unbuttoning him at Lakme Fashion Week during the Levi’s by Tarun Tahiliani show, but is this a case of much ado about ‘unzipping’? Here’s what the fashion frat had to say:
Waluscha Robinson, model: I walked the ramp as part of the very same show and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what Akshay did. Those who wear the brand would know that the brand has a line called ‘Levi’s Unbuttoned’ and there are similar commercial hoardings and ads all over the place. Why isn’t anyone pointing out these ads? Besides, Twinkle is his wife and undoing the first button is not indecent at all. People are just blowing things out of proportion!
Anand Kabra, designer: I was there — and I think what Akshay did was in good fun and humour; it all stopped at the right point. After all, it was a show sponsored by a denim brand so they had to project it as fun and full of energy for the target group which is primarily the youth. I think it was all in good spirit and it’s a pity that we are reading too much into it.
Marc Robinson, choreographer: Yes, I did direct the show. But I am in Dubai and have no idea what is happening back in India. I would only be able to comment once I am back.
Rocky S, designer: This is nothing but yet another publicity stunt; someone out there wants to get cheap thrills out of making an issue of what is basically a non-issue. Twinkle just undid one button; it’s not like she stripped him or something!
Nikasha Tawadey, designer: I saw the clippings of the show and all I can say is that Levi’s is an established brand and they don’t need to do something like this at all. And Akshay Kumar is a veteran actor; so he has a social responsibility towards his fans. This act was uncalled for as it was in bad taste.
