PMK allotted seven seats, assured of Rajya Sabha ticket in 2010

AIADMK and PMK on Saturday entered into an alliance for the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Dr S Ramadoss’ Pattali Makkal Katchi will contest from seven constituencies under the AIADMK alliance in Tamil Nadu in the parliamentary elections. The party has also been assured a Rajya Sabha ticket in 2010. These decisions were arrived at after a 30-minute meeting between Ramadoss and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence on Saturday.

“I’m happy that PMK founder Dr Annan [elder brother] met me today after eight years. According to the agreement reached between the two parties, PMK will contest seven seats and also get one Rajya Sabha ticket during 2010. Seat sharing talks with other parties under the AIADMK alliance are also on and we will decide that in a couple of days,” Jayalalithaa said.

“It is the considered opinion of  analysts that this as an unbeatable, winning combination and we are confident of winning all 40 seats [39 in TN and one from Puducherry],” she said. Asked about Ramadoss’ comment that he is not a part of the Third Front, Jayalalithaa said,” He said he is a part of the AIADMK front.” Dr S Ramadoss, party president G K Mani and other party leaders arrived in a convoy of eight cars at 10.40 am. Only Ramadoss’ car was allowed into Jayalalithaa’s compound while workers of both parties gathered outside. Ramadoss, after the meeting, left for AIADMK party headquarters for further talks with senior leaders.
