Senior BJP leader and the party's candidate from Vidisha, Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday rejected the Congress theory that she was an outsider for the seat and challenged the opposition to organise a debate on the issue.
"I was a student of Sanskrit and a fan of noted poet Kalidas. I visited Vidisha first in 1986 and since then I am aware of the historic importance of the area. I challenge the Congress to hold a Shastrarth (debate) on the issue," Swaraj said.
"I am very much aware that people of the region are longing for a direct rail line between Budhni and Indore and Sagar and Bhopal. I assure the people that centre will approve their demands soon," Sushma Swaraj told reporters after addressing a meeting as part of the party's Nyay Yatra.
"As far as Budhni is concerned, I know that there are 18 km long forests on both sides of the town. Thanks to Shivraj Singh Chouhan that two units of Punjab's Vardhman have set up their unit here providing employment to large number of people," she said.
To a question, she said that despite her other commitments she would tour the entire constituency at least twice before the voting on April 23.
Swaraj denied that she was targeting Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and added that she referred to his speech on Kalavati on Tuesday as it was relevant in this region's context where large number of women are facing power crisis due to the Centre's discrimination against the state.
Criticising Congress for describing NDA's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani as a person known for the demolition of Babri Mosque, both Swaraj and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that it reflects their mental bankruptcy.
Chouhan said it was Advani, who has given the slogan that 21st century belongs to India and no other leader is as knowledgeable as he is and there is no doubt in the minds of the people.
To a question he said that people of the state will again vote for BJP as they are aware of development being done during its rule.
