In an apparent bid to woo the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa asked the Congress party to snap ties with the DMK and withdraw its support to the Karunanidhi government.

"The DMK is caught in a quicksand. Nobody can help it out. Those who want to help it will also be caught in the quicksand and the Congress should come out of web of the DMK," she said, while solemnising weddings of 61 of her partymen here.

Jayalalithaa said she was giving this suggestion to the Congress if it wanted to face the electorate during the Lok Sabha polls honourably.

"I am suggesting this because of the good relationship the AIADMK and Congress enjoyed in the past. If Congress does not listen, it will also be caught in the quicksand like the DMK," she said.

The AIADMK leader said she enjoyed good personal equations with the late prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and that was one of the reasons for her suggestion.

She also said that Congress by snapping ties with the DMK will "remedy the sin" it had committed by aligning with that party.
