Taking step forward to make Delhi a global city, the state government would soon make the Connaught Place area a wi-fi zone where tourists and businessmen would be able to access internet without any disruption.

Senior officials said a part of the market had already become wi-fi friendly. The second phase of the project will begin on March 1.  “We are renovating all the markets and trying to make them more people friendly. So, we have started the wi-fi facility in parts of Connaught Place.

A similar facility would be extended to other areas as well,” a senior official of the chief minister’s office said. Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit is taking a personal interest in the project.

It is for the first time in the country that a market place will be converted into a wi-fi zone. People visiting Connaught Place would be able to access internet from any anywhere in the market and restaurants. “The facility will attract more tourists during the 2010 Commonwealth Games,” the official added.
