Youth's self-immolation follows visa denial: Uncle

The Jharkhand youth, who attempted suicide by setting himself afire in the high security area near the prime minister's office, was upset over his failure to get a visa to visit Kuwait for a third time, one of his relatives on Sunday claimed here.
    
32-year-old Abhisekh Kumar Choube from Garhwa district had sustained 100 per cent burn injuries following his immolation bid on Saturday at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi. He had gone to the national capital on February 10 and reportedly wanted to meet prime minister Manmohan Singh.
    
"Abhishekh, a non-matriculate, had worked in Kuwait for six months before coming back to India and wanted to go back to get a job there," his uncle Ramesh Chowbey said.
    
The youth, who was second among five siblings, had worked as a fitter in a company in Gujarat's Surat for six years and he first went to Kuwait when the company sent him there for 15 days, Chowbey said.
    
"His second stint in Kuwait lasted for six months but he had to come back following the expiry of visa. He was keen to go to Kuwait once again," he said.
    
The youth's family is residing in Ghurva village and his father Ram Pravesh Chowbey (50) earns a living from a small stretch of agriculture land.

However, Delhi police had said prima facie it appeared the youth had taken the extreme step after his failed love affair. They claimed to have recovered a series of poems on love from his hotel room in Paharganj area of the national capital.
    
Abhisekh, who was staying in Visakhapatanam with his mother for the last six months, has been undergoing treatment at a Delhi hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.
