Fiza gives Chand one last chance

Fiza has given her husband Chand Mohammad more time. As the 48-hour ultimatum she had served earlier expired, the distraught wife on Sunday allowed Chand “four-five more days to explain his position”. Fiza told reporters she was granting him more time after she received a message from Chand saying he would explain everything in a few days.

Serving a stern warning to her husband, Fiza said this was the last chance she was giving him to explain his side of the story, failing which she would take any step to seek justice for herself. It could lead to grave consequences for Chand, Fiza warned.

A former assistant advocate general in Haryana, Fiza said she had no faith in Chand anymore, even though she was prepared to give him one last chance. “But after this, Chand should have no grouse against me if I take any step to bring him to justice,” she said.

The two had converted to Islam before marrying as Chand did not divorce his first wife. He was Chander Mohan before marrying Fiza, who was Anuradha Bali before converting to Islam.

Fiza had earlier served a 48-hour notice on Chand to “come and talk” to her about their relationship.
She took exception to the fact that her husband had not been in communication with her ever since he left her last week. She said she was convinced that Chand was under some kind of family pressure to keep away from her, but she also wondered how Chand could travel to places like Agra and not speak to her at all. “Even my hospitalisation did not move him to get in touch with me,” she said.

Fiza had attempted suicide last week.

She said she felt cheated by her husband and warned that “a woman could not be treated like a play thing”.
She said she continued to receive threatening SMSes from close associates of her husband’s kin. “Nobody knows whether I will be alive tomorrow,” she said. “Chand must come clean on whether he is Chander Mohan or the man who married me after converting to Islam. I have lost everything,” said Fiza.
