What is baffling the investigators of Meeta rape and murder case is how the school authorities and more that 1,000 students of the municipal school failed to detect the body of the girl in the school toilet for four days. When the body was recovered on Wednesday, the civic authorities had no answer for this lapse.

A Municipal School Board official told DNA that the principal of the school, Ganga Solanki, failed to give any satisfactory reply when asked about this issue. The AMC has demanded a written clarification from the principal.

When contacted over phone, chairman of Municipal School Board Manu Raval said he was out of station and not aware of this development. "I have told officials to investigate the matter," he told DNA.  The school authorities said the toilet was not in use for the past few days as a bitch had delivered some puppies there and the schoolchildren had been avoiding going near the toilet. "The toilet was not in use for the last few days, and the school authorities did not bother to make it usable, this itself shows the negligence on their part," said Ramesh Patel, a resident of the area. The municipal authorities said a watchman is deployed at the school but he is on leave. "The watchman is absent for the past few days and we are investigating it also," an official said. Solanki, however, said another man had been asked to do duty for the absent watchman. The AMC officials, however, denied this. Meeta was the only daughter of Bhoma Marwadi, a native of Sirohi in Rajasthan. She was studying in second standard in Shreeji Vidyalaya of Bapunagar. The family has been living in the city for the last one year.

Girl bought gola at 1.30 pm
Police will also interrogate Trikam Bhai, the gola vendor, from whom the victim and her brother bought gola. Trikam told DNA that the duo bought golas at about 1.30 pm on Saturday. Trikam runs a stall near the municipal school from where the girl's body was found.

Cops to quiz victim's uncle
Police said it would quiz victim's uncle Ratan Marwadi in this connection. Ratan's nervousness and his hesitation to talk to police raised suspicion and the police want to interrogate him. Cops said they would also interrogate the school authorities to find out how they failed to detect the body lying in the toilet for 3 days.

Brother is in trauma
The girl's four-year-old brother Pravin is still to come out of the trauma. Sources said the boy first said that his uncle had given money to him and his sister to purchase ice-golas but later changed his version claiming that his father gave the money. However, father Bhomaji Marwadi said he had not given money to them.
