Fashion comes to the city riding in a 3-day extravaganza

Style and fashion are coming to the city in the form of a 3-day extravaganza beginning on Tuesday.

The Indian fashion calendar for 2009 has kick-started beginning the Gitanjali Luxury Style fest, which will be a three-day event beginning from January 20-22 and will be will be held on Royal Western India Turf Club, (RWITC) at the Mahalaxmi Race course.

The participants would be India’s leading designers like Wendell Rodricks, Ritu Beri, Rohit Bal, Shane and Falguni Peacock, Nandita Mehtani, Arjun Khanna, Krishna Mehta, Rocky S and Vikram Phadnis. The show director is Marc Robinson.

Spread over the lawns of the RWITC, the Gitanjali Luxury Style Fest 2009 will contain exhibition lounges, an exclusive fashion show area, premium hospitality lounges and networking lounges. Visitors from international and domestic luxury goods buyers, brands, guests and media are expected to attend the event. 

The event will be a platform that will showcase a variety of Indian and international luxury brands to a discerning audience. Mehul Choksi, chairman, Gitanjali Group said, “The Gitanjali Group has always displayed a long standing and deep-rooted commitment towards development of the luxury industry and market in India. The
Gitanjali Luxury Style Fest 2009 is a synchronized effort to develop a common arena for leading luxury brands to come together and create an unforgettable experience around a niche audience. We see our new idea as the right step to provide an impetus to the growth of the luxury segment in the country.”

However, other designers are equally upbeat about the fest. Rocky S would be
presenting his spring/summer collection meant for the bold, chic woman of today who enjoys ‘champagne brunches and yacht parties’. Rocky has used a lot of light pastel colours in this collection ranging from beiges to ivory and subtle pistachio, but in his signature style the mercurial designer has included black. He feels no matter the season, black is always in demand for its great versatility and will remain his personal favourite.

However, Vikram Phadnis will be showcasing a bridal collection. He will be the finale designer on January 22.
