CHANDIGARH: Amid reports of his second marriage, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan, the elder son of former CM Bhajan Lal, was sacked from the post shortly after he surfaced on Sunday a month after he mysteriously disappeared from public view.
The absence of 43-year-old Mohan from the office for the past few weeks was cited by the state government as the reason for removing him from the B S Hooda-led Congress ministry.
Official sources said the senior Congress leader and four- time MLA from Kalka assembly constituency was dropped from his post by Governor A R Kidwai on the advice of Hooda, an official spokesman said here.
Though the official spokesman said Mohan had been dropped from the state cabinet for his long absence from the state, including at the headquarters, the action against the already married Congress leader came within hours of reports in a private news channel that he had married Anuradha, a former Deputy Advocate General of Punjab.
Mohan and Anuradha told the channel that they had converted into Islam and married five days back as per Muslim traditions. Mohan's elder son Mohit had died on March seven this year following illness. He has another son and a daughter besides his wife Seema.
Anuradha told the channel that the two had been meeting since the past five years. She has become Fiza while Mohan has changed his name to Chand Mohammad, the channel was told.
Mohan was absent from the state headquarters here as also from his parental residence in Hissar. He had not attended the Cabinet meetings held in the past few days. "He has been removed as he had been absenting from his office since quite some time," the sources said.
His younger brother Kuldeep Bishnoi had recently said that his brother was fine and he had talked to him over phone some time back.
