Themselves under attack time and again, over 200 Delhiites came together on Wednesday to light candles and express solidarity with the people of Mumbai, who suffered a four-day terror ordeal last week.

Angry at callous politicians, the citizens were joined by a group of at least a dozen disillusioned soldiers who too wanted to ask questions.

“If they (terrorists) want to fight us, they should have the guts to march up to the border like men, not stab us in the back by carrying out such attacks,” Gurpreet Singh of the Sikh regiment said.

“Enough is enough. We have suffered many terrorist strikes. The government should step up security so that such incidents do not happen again. We can’t be passive any more, we have to be aggressive,” noted fashion designer Rohit Bal said.

Hit by terrorist and forced out of her home in Kashmir almost two decades ago, Nancy Kaul was holding a candle and almost in tears. She insisted the government move so that once again the people of this country can feel proud of being Indians.

“Eleven of my relatives were massacred by terrorists in Kashmir. I understand what the people of Mumbai must be going through. The government should take steps so that no one dares mess around with us.”

Similar protests were held elsewhere in the nation.
