I am a politician just by accident: Manmohan

BANGALORE:  “I am a politician only by accident. Teaching is my first love,” prime minister Manmohan Singh said on Wednesday. Singh said the years spent as a university teacher were the most enjoyable of his life.

Deviating from his prepared speech, the prime minister said visits to centres of learning and research filled his heart as he declared open the International Centre for Materials Science and CNR Rao Hall of Science at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research here.

Inaugurating the centenary celebrations at the Indian Institute of Science, the prime minister in principle also approved security measures for Karnataka and Bangalore, including an NSG unit in the state.

He promised three reserve battalions, a base for Indo-Tibetan force in Belgaum, 18 check-posts to guard the 300-km west coast and two helicopters to deal with emergency.
