BHUBANESWAR: The Maoists in Orissa have warned the saffron activists not to “spread communal hatred” in the riot-torn Kandhamal district. They even pasted around half-a dozen of posters here, describing VHP, Bajrang Dal and RSS activists as their enemies.

The posters warned the people not to join hands with the saffron group. They have termed the VHP as a “poisonous Hindu organisation”. “Anybody joining the RSS or the VHP will be taken to task,” they warned.

Earlier, they had lynched a VHP worker, Dhanu Pradhan, at Kumbharigaon in Brahamanigaon on November 6. They had also threatened to kill more VHP people. Veteran VHP activist Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati was murdered on August 23.

After the Maoist pasted the posters, the police registered a case under the unlawful activities prevention Act and sent the documents for forensic examination. “We are
ascertaining the veracity of the posters,” police commissioner BK Sharma said, adding that the posters could be “pure mischief.”
