AHMEDABAD: The Madhya Pradesh Police has arrested Qayamuddin Kapadia, the most-wanted accused in the Ahmedabad serial blasts case, from Ujjain on Monday. An Ahmedabad city crime branch team has rushed to Ujjain to take him into custody.

Kapadia lived in Vadodara till the blasts and later took refuge in various states of the country.

Sources in the MP Police said that the metropolitan court has sent Kapadia to 10 days police remand. “He will be brought to the city as soon as his remand period in Ujjain is completed,” the officer said.

The Ahmedabad crime branch team has already camped into the city to interrogate Kapadia. “He is among the last important links in the case, who will help us conclude the case,” a senior crime branch officer told DNA.

“He can provide us many details in connection with Abdul Subbha Qureshi alias
Tauqeer and can also clue us in on Tauqeer’s whereabouts,” he said.

Kapadia, a resident of Vadodara, played an important role in the 26/7 blasts and was declared absconding by the city crime branch investigating the serial blasts cases. “He planted cycle bombs in the city as well as bombs in different parts of Surat,” the officer said. He was also responsible for the purchase of cycles on which the bombs were planted and kept in different parts of the city.

Kapadia, an expert in using explosives, was allegedly present during various Simi terror training camps in Waghamon in Kerala and Halol near Vadodara and was instrumental in training the participants.
