Sushil Kumar eyes gold in London Olympics

Beijing Olympics bronze medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar said his aim is to win gold medal in the London edition of the Games in 2010.

CHENNAI: Beijing Olympics bronze medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar on Tuesday said his aim is to win gold medal in the London edition of the Games in 2010.    

"I am practicing hard and my aim will be to win gold in the next Olympics," Sushil said during a launch of nutrition products here.
    
However, he insisted that a podium finish at the 2010 Commonwealth Games will definitely boost his confidence towards his ultimate goal.
    
"My immediate target is to win the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games to be held at New Delhi in 2010. It will encourage me to go for the gold in London Olympics," the wrestler said.
    
Sushil became the second Indian wrestler to win an Olympic medal after K D Jadhav won the bronze in 1952 Helsinki Games.
    
He said the secret of his success and the bronze winning performance in Beijing was nothing but hard work.
    
"Hard work and perseverance will definitely fetch good results."
    
Comparing the development of the sport in India and abroad, he said, "In India, wrestlers are coming to the game only for money. But in abroad, they are looking to it as a sport."
    
Sushil believes that the future of wrestling in the country looks promising.
    
"Talent was always there. Now after my bronze medal, I hope more youngsters would come forward to take up the sport," he said.
