Jailed don Abu Salem is having bouts of insecurity in the fully guarded confines of the Arthur Road jail. Reason: He gets restless and paces up and down the corridors of the prison each time he gets a buzz about his ex-girlfriend Monica Bedi, who is part of a reality show on television.

Salem is extremely unhappy with the growing proximity of Monica and Rahul Mahajan, son of slain Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, say sources adding,
“He is apparently worked up and wants to vent his anger.”

Salem, who is cooling his heels in prison since his extradition from Portugal in November 2005, does not access television or newspapers. But his aides, when out for court hearings, ensure that they get back to jail with enough gossip about Monica and Rahul.

They give him a detailed account of the developments in the show including the body language and conversations between Monica and Rahul.

“Salem still hopes to win Monica back despite her denial of the relationship. Even in the underworld circles, Salem is known to be a die-hard romantic. He has been known to charm girls with his good looks and ‘filmi’ dialogues,” a source said.

So desperate was Salem to catch a glimpse of his former sweetheart that he requested the jail authorities to install a television set in Barrack Number 1, where he is currently lodged. “The jail authorities obviously denied the request. This has led to Salem getting more charged up and he has been spending sleepless nights,” said a source in the jail.
Monica fell in love with Salem just before she got a break in Bollywood. They were in Lisbon before being extradited.

She was accused in a fake passport case and was lodged in a prison in Hyderabad. A Sessions court later acquitted her. While in prison, Monica taught yoga, dancing and English to women prisoners.
